The Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality (EMLM) has issued a notice that refuse collection will be halted this Easter weekend. The municipality said it has put a moratorium on overtime work for the service due to financial constraints it is currently facing.
“From Friday to Monday, which are public holidays, there will be no refuse collection as workers will be laid off (only for public holiday) and work will resume on Tuesday, April 14.
“In the past, all essential work had continued as normal during public holidays but due to the dire financial state of affairs, the municipality has issued a moratorium on overtime work for refuse collection.
“Electricity provision will continue unhindered as the municipality and all stakeholders cannot function if the service is halted. We apologize to all affected customers,” said EMLM spokesperson, Lonwabo Kowa.
